  Rescue dogs

12-21-09Due to PA new dog laws(10-09-2009) we sadly will not be able to rescue dogs anymore. This law has stop places like us from helping unwanted dogs find new homes, The new law penalizes us by counting rescue dogs into our total number of dogs per year which makes it impossible for us to continue helping dogs:( We will still post people dogs for them and you can contact them directly. Soon or later PA citizens need to realize that this new law is putting All dog breeder in PA out of business not just the bad ones!

Sometimes we help place dogs that need a home. Since we are lucky enough to own a boarding kennel. Please keep in mind these are usually NOT Vision Kennel poodles so they come with no guarentees . They are free . We ask nothing for their up keep while here. They must be fixed if they aren't already and if you cant keep them they must come back to us to be placed again.I will not place any large breed rescue dogs with house holds with little kids, sorry.

Attached is a photo of Thelma and Louise. We adopted Thelma and Louise from the Lancaster County, Pa Humane League when they were 4 months old.  My girls are now 9 years old. They have provided me with companionship and protection for all of those years and it is breaking my heart to have to find them a new home. You see, my 4 year old son has recently and in the past been diagnosed with severe allergies, one of the highest being dog allergies.  We have done all we can do, but after some recent asthma attacks and a trip to the ER with my son, I am not sure my dogs would be very good for his bad days, and I have been trying to keep them away from him as much as possible.  Again, after 9 years with them, I always thought they would be with us until they were much older, and I never thought I would have to make the decision to give them up.  If you have room for them, I would love for them to go to a wonderful home that would love and care for them and spoil them. Thelma and Louise are sisters and have never been apart from each other. I am hoping to place them together in a loving home.  Please let me know if you can help. You can call me at (717)-799-3877 or my husband, Kelly at (717)-799-3876. Thank you for your time.

    Rescue dogs in new homes!

Parti girl- placed 9-1-07

Maryann,

Just wanted to send a brief report on “Freckles” (I’ve actually been calling her “Lucinda”).  She is doing fabulously!!!  I am so happy with her!!!  I just cannot thank you enough.  She is house trained already.  She only peed in the house one time, her first morning there, immediately after a 40 minute walk.  I just explained to her that “No” that must be done outside.  Since then, no accidents whatsoever.  She had her first poop on Thursday morning, during our walk, and again this morning, so it seems that will be her pattern.  She is doing great walking on a leash.  She walks on my left side and she knows “stop.”  She has been sleeping in a bedroom on my first floor and I have been sleeping just down the hallway on the dining room floor to be near her.  She sleeps peacefully and is sweet, gentle and tentative upon waking, and I think in time she will be comfortable sleeping with me.  This morning she picked up my night shirt off the floor and carried it to her sleeping area.  We haven’t navigated the stairs to the second floor yet (where my bedroom is located), but we will work on that in time, and they are carpeted so it won’t be a slippery surface.

When I am home in the house she is not restrained and she does great.  When I go to work, I do put her in her crate and I think she does some barking when I’m gone, but she doesn’t whine or anything when I am with her.  Mid-day, I am home with her for ½ hour and we spend the time outside, walking around the back yard.

She is a good eater, eating a bowl of food in the morning and one twelve hours later, in the evening.

On Wednesday evening I bathed her at a pet wash and she did great.  She rides amazingly well in the car, very calm and alert.

At this point she is not interested in treats, and will not take food from my hand.  But she is learning to “sit” for praise, even though I am offering her a treat and she is not taking it.  Everyday she is becoming more acclimated to new sights and sounds and meeting my eyes more and more.

I am completely in love with her.  She is amazing and I really feel like we were meant to be together.  My “temperament” is calm, quiet, and generally soft spoken, and she seems to respond well to that.  In the evenings, we spend hours outside (she is on a leash of course), walking around and after a while she will lay down and relax in the grass. She has been introduced to my one neighbor’s 18 week old Golden puppy, and well as my good friend/neighbor’s 13 year old sheltie and she is quite comfortable meeting new dogs (which would be logical given her background).

I am soooooo glad the week-end is here so I don’t have to leave her to go to work!

 With Joyful Gratitude,

 Sonya Mylin

Hello,
My name is Daisy. I am an Old English Sheepdog who found myself abandoned and placed in a foster home hoping for a chance to be adopted into a good family. I liked staying with Mary Ann and her standard poodles but I knew I would be much happier in my own place with my very own family. A few weeks ago I found myself becoming the luckiest dog in the world. A family in Reading, PA had lost a very special pet in their family, a companion of many years named Lady. It was very sad because her sister dog, a Weimaraner named Tanya was also very sad at losing her best friend. Everyone knew that only a very special new dog could fill the place in everyone's heart thatad been left by the loss of Lady. I became the Rescue dog coming to the Rescue of the family. Tom and Sandy heard and read about me and knew that I would be the perfect new member in their family. Off they went, Tanya riding shotgun, to visit Daisy at her foster home. Needless to say, I found a special place in their car, home, and hearts. Yes, I, Daisy Mae, prove that foster/rescue sites can have very special dogs just waiting to fill those spots in the hearts of people and pets. We all share our toys and favorite sleeping spots as well as the long walks and playtime in my fenced yard. Life has become good.
Daisy Mae Lafferty
